Sustainability has been a cornerstone of our business for more than two decades, and our approach to it is rooted in our company’s values and woven into our day-to-day operations. Our Commitment to Sustainability

Through our Writing the Future, Together™program, BIC® published a set of commitments that guide us to be a more socially and environmentally responsible company, focusing on five key areas split across Product, Planet, and People. For BIC®, doing business means respecting workplace ethics, upholding human rights, and acting with integrity. We want our team members to enjoy safe working environments, our local communities to prosper, and children across the world to benefit from better education. And we are determined to shrink the environmental footprints of our products and operations—a goal that requires us to rethink our approach to raw materials. Now imagine what we can make with all that recyclable material. Here’s what we made:

  • - Since 2011, we’ve been working in Europe with Terracycle®, a Pioneer in the plastic recycling industry, through which we collect used writing instruments.
  • - The materials are turned into boards by Govaplast.
  • - And the boards are used to make urban furniture by Plas Eco.
 

Investing in Circular Manufacturing

Over seven years, our research and development team tackled the burning issue of lighter recyclability, ultimately culminating in a world first: the creation of our own machines for taking apart BIC® lighters to enable the recycling of their components.
